Dear Prospective Intern:

The House Committee on Foreign Affairs offers a limited number of internships to undergraduate students. Internships offer a unique experience to learn more about the operations of the House of Representatives, the legislative process, and the committee process in particular. An internship here presents challenging opportunities to participate in the daily operations of a busy congressional committee office.

The Committee on Foreign Affairs has jurisdiction over a wide range of legislative and oversight issues, and past interns have been exposed to interesting and complex issues regarding the entire world. Our interns are assigned tasks which include assisting committee staff with the preparation of legislative and oversight hearings, answering public inquiries, drafting correspondence, and assisting with the day-to-day administrative tasks of the committee.

Foreign Affairs Committee internships are unpaid. Interns are accepted throughout the year, but the Committee is only able to accept a limited number of interns who may work in the office at any given time. Because of this and because summer is an especially popular time, it may be difficult to obtain an internship during the summer term. It is advisable to apply for an internship up to a year in advance, if possible.
